"Geography of Capital, Output and People.
This Institute Briefing considers the world from the lens of equity market capitalization, GDP and population now and in 2050 to assess the potential for other markets to catch up to the dominant United States equity markets.
United States in 2026 commands 48% of the global equity market capital with only 4% of the global population and 28% of the global GDP.
If EU πͺπΊ , China π¨π³ and United States πΊπΈ hypothetically should have 1/3 of global market capitalization each by 2050, then EU and China should out-compound United States by 7% per year for the next 24 years. It would, thus, take quite a change for the United States not to dominate the global market capitalization in 2050 as well.
Do look out for India, Pakistan, Africa and other strongly growing populations to catch up significantly by 2050, if they can successfully grow their economies and market capitalizations.
